| Friday evening I went on a long overdue cycling trip with my friend Jon, and decided to ride to Saratoga to meet up with him. As neither of the bicycles in the garage had inflated tires, I searched in vain for the pump. I gave up and borrowed my mom's golf cart hand pump.
I was unable to inflate the tires fully, but I took off anyway. After riding awhile along a freight railway, I saw Jon and stopped to fill my front tire with a hand pump.
Instead of hardening, the tire emptied itself and flattened to the ground.
We spent a good 20 minutes walking all the way back to my house in Cupertino. At least I had another bicycle waiting for me in the garage; as luck would have it, its tires would inflate properly.
Our next task was to get to Target to buy some bicycle lights for Jon's bike, along with batteries. This was a massive failure:
1. Batteries were of the wrong size 2. We had no screwdrivers with which to mount the light
The fine text claimed that "No tools were needed," but we discovered that this referred to battery replacement, not bracket mounting. Night had settled in quickly so we ran the rest of our trip over to Sunnyvale and back, via the foothills. Despite my relatively sluggish speed, I lit the way with my loosely mounted lights.

Sunday morning, as Jennifer received a haircut, I went to buy some breakfast at McDonalds. I discovered that the local McD's was closed due to power failure. Feeling lucky to have a navigation system on my car to look up other locations for me, I drove to the next one. It was abandoned.
In disappointment but not disbelief, I entered the next location. It was also empty.
The fourth McDonald's location saw me more than 5 miles away from the salon. But just a hair before breakfast service ended at 10:30am, I got my breakfast.

| Took Caltrain and BART to hang out with the Dannibal today. As we met up and began walking down 8th Street, two police officers rushed a man next to us. One handcuffed as the other screamed, "Get the F*** down!" His huge shotgun was aimed.
As we realized the awkwardness of the situation, we walked away quickly. Four or five more police cars arrived, blockading the intersection.

| Major news source: Five activists protesting on behalf of Tibet, including three Americans, were arrested Thursday for what Chinese police called "activities against Chinese law" and will be deported, Beijing police said. 3 US and 2 Commonwealth citizens, on behalf of Tibet? Sounds like an insult to Tibet. (Note: They belong to Students for a Free Tibet, so they were protesting on behalf of their organization.) | | |
